The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences now recruit many non-faculty posts through a Common Recruitment Examination. Clerical posts such as Lower Division Clerk, Upper Division Clerk and Junior Administrative Assistant include a typing skill test after the computer based test. The standard commonly quoted is 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi, the same as most central government clerical posts.

Hospital administration typing
Clerical staff at AIIMS handle patient records, procurement files, staff matters and correspondence with ministries. Typing passages for such posts are usually administrative. Our office and formal passages match that register, and GK passages help with the written stage.
The skill test is qualifying, but with many institutes recruiting together, the number of candidates is large and there is no room to fall short.
One exam, many institutes
Because the Common Recruitment Examination covers several AIIMS campuses, your preferences and rank decide where you are posted. The typing test only decides whether you are eligible. Reach the required speed comfortably, then focus on the written test for rank.
Quick reference
- 35 WPM = 10,500 key depressions per hour.
- 30 WPM = 9,000 key depressions per hour.
- Our result card shows WPM, KDPH and correct keys.
Medical and administrative vocabulary
Hospital offices use words that rarely appear in general passages: outpatient, procurement, indent, tender, consultant, sanction and reimbursement. Some passages may also include the names of departments such as cardiology or radiology. These words are long and easy to misspell under time pressure. Add any you stumble over to a short personal drill list and type it a few times before each session. Within two weeks they will stop slowing you down, and your net speed will rise without any extra effort on the rest of the passage.
Tips to pass the AIIMS CRE typing test
- Aim for 40 WPM English or 33 WPM Hindi in practice.
- Practise administrative vocabulary such as procurement, sanction and indent.
- Keep accuracy above 95 percent.
- Use the same chair and keyboard height each session.
- Track your progress weekly on the progress page.
