Recruitment for clerical posts in the Bombay High Court and the courts under it usually includes a computer typing test after the screening test. Because the court works with judgments, orders and cause lists, the typing passage tends to use legal vocabulary and long sentences. This page gives you legal-style English passages and scores you on net speed and accuracy, the two things that decide your typing marks.

What to expect in the BHC typing test
The typing test is taken on a computer. A minimum English speed of around 40 words per minute is commonly mentioned for clerk posts, and marks are typically awarded on a sliding scale above that minimum, with deductions for errors. The test is short, so a slow start or a few early mistakes have a large effect on your score.
Recent recruitments have also included Marathi typing. This site does not yet support a Marathi layout. If your notice asks for Marathi typing, use the Devanagari InScript practice on our Hindi pages for finger training, but check the Marathi-specific characters separately.
Why legal passages are harder
Words like 'adjournment', 'appellant', 'respondent', 'thereafter' and 'notwithstanding' are long and contain letter combinations that slow you down until you have typed them many times. Sentences often have several commas and section numbers. Typing ordinary news or story passages will not prepare you fully for this, which is why exam pages on this site pick formal and legal texts first.
Reading your score
- Net WPM is your gross speed minus one word per minute for every uncorrected error.
- Accuracy shows what share of the characters you typed were right.
- The pass badge compares your net speed with the 40 WPM practice target.
Tips to pass the Bombay HC typing test
- Make a list of legal words you mistype and practise them as a separate drill.
- Warm up with two one-minute tests before a full test, so the first minute of the real test is not your slowest.
- Keep your accuracy above 95%; in a short test every error costs a large share of your net speed.
- Practise typing section numbers and dates, for example 'Section 151' or '12 March 2024'.
- On exam day, adjust the chair and keyboard before the timer starts.
