The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission recruits Review Officers and Assistant Review Officers for the state secretariat and the Commission's own offices. For posts that require it, a computer typing test in Hindi and English follows the main examination. Speeds around 25 words per minute in Hindi and 30 in English are commonly mentioned. Secretariat work is formal, so passages tend to be in official government language.

Official language of the secretariat
Uttarakhand government files are largely in Hindi, with formal words like शासनादेश, प्रस्ताव, अनुमोदन, विभाग and अधिसूचना. English passages are similarly formal. Practising formal and office passages is the closest match to the test.
The typing test is usually qualifying, so the goal is a safe margin rather than maximum speed.
Combine revision with typing
The GK passages on this site cover polity, history, geography and science topics that also appear in the RO/ARO examination. Typing them gives you speed practice and revision at the same time.
Routine
- Hindi 10-minute test five days a week.
- English test twice a week.
- One GK passage every day.
Exam-day checklist
Before the timer starts, confirm the layout selected on the exam computer, especially if you practised on Kruti Dev and the test uses Unicode. Check that Caps Lock is off for the English test. Read the first line of the passage and begin at a comfortable pace; most typists naturally speed up after the first minute. If you make a mistake, keep going. A calm, accurate test is far more likely to clear the requirement than a rushed one with many errors.
Switching from Kruti Dev
If you learned Kruti Dev but the test uses Unicode, choose Remington Gail. It uses the same key positions, so your finger memory carries over, and the output is standard Unicode Hindi.
Tips to pass the UKPSC RO/ARO typing test
- Practise formal Hindi vocabulary until it flows.
- Aim for 30 WPM Hindi in practice.
- Choose one Hindi layout and stay with it.
- Use blind mode once a week.
- Keep accuracy above 95 percent.
