The Central Board of Secondary Education recruits Junior Assistants for its headquarters and regional offices, where staff handle affiliation, examination and results work. After the written examination, candidates take a computer typing test, commonly at 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi. The board runs exams for millions of students, so its offices produce a large volume of circulars and notices — exactly the kind of text typing tests use.

Board office typing

Working in a CBSE office means typing circulars to schools, affiliation letters and examination notices. Passages for the skill test are typically formal and administrative. Practise office passages and pay attention to dates, school codes and numbers.

The test is qualifying; the written examination decides your rank.

English or Hindi

CBSE works bilingually, and the skill test can usually be taken in English or Hindi as the notice allows. If you are equally comfortable in both, choose the one where your net speed is further above the requirement.

Practice plan

  • Warm up with a 2-minute test.
  • Do one 10-minute office passage.
  • Review your error analysis and drill the words you missed.

Common errors in office passages

Office passages trip typists up in predictable ways: dates written in different formats, reference numbers with slashes and hyphens, capitalised designations such as Regional Officer or Under Secretary, and words that look alike, such as affiliation and affiliated. After each test, open the error analysis and check which category most of your mistakes fall into. If they are mostly capitalisation or punctuation, slow down slightly at the start of sentences and around numbers; if they are spelling mistakes, drill the specific words. Fixing the biggest category first gives the fastest improvement in net speed.

Tips to pass the CBSE JA typing test

  • Practise numbers such as school codes and dates without looking down.
  • Aim for 40 WPM English or 33 WPM Hindi in practice.
  • Keep accuracy above 95 percent.
  • Use blind mode once a week.
  • Track your progress page to see weekly improvement.
  • Before the exam, practise a few passages with many dates and reference numbers, since board circulars are full of them.
