Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan runs more than a thousand central schools, and each needs office staff to manage admissions, accounts and correspondence. Junior Secretariat Assistants are recruited through a written test followed by a typing skill test. The commonly quoted standard is 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi on a computer, the same as most central government clerical posts.

School office typing
A school office types admission notices, fee circulars, leave orders and replies to parents and the regional office. Typing passages for this kind of post tend to be administrative and formal rather than literary. Our office and formal passages are a good match, and GK passages help you revise for the written stages at the same time.
The skill test is qualifying, but recruitment is national and competitive, so you cannot afford to fall short at this step.
Hindi option
Kendriya Vidyalayas work bilingually, and Hindi typing is accepted where the notice allows it. Practise in Unicode on InScript or Remington Gail. Check the notice for the layouts available in the exam software.
A simple routine
- Two short warm-ups, then one 10-minute test, five days a week.
- Review mistakes after every test.
- Use blind mode once a week to simulate the real exam screen.
Typing with confidence on the day
Nervousness is normal in a skill test, and it usually shows up as a fast, error-filled start. Take a breath before the timer starts, read the first line, and begin at a comfortable pace. Most candidates naturally speed up after the first minute. If you make a mistake, keep going rather than stopping to stare at it. A calm, even pace with few errors almost always produces a better net speed than a burst of fast typing followed by many corrections.
Tips to pass the KVS JSA typing test
- Aim for at least 38 WPM English or 33 WPM Hindi in practice.
- Get comfortable with capital letters in names of schools, places and officials.
- Practise numbers used in circulars, such as dates and fee amounts.
- If typing in Hindi, master conjuncts like क्ष, त्र and श्र.
- Practise on a full-size keyboard if you can.
