What your speed means
| Net speed | What it means |
|---|---|
| Below 20 WPM | Beginner. Focus on touch typing lessons before timed tests. |
| 20–30 WPM | Improving. Enough for some Hindi tests; keep building accuracy. |
| 30–40 WPM | Exam-ready for many clerical posts with good accuracy. |
| 40–60 WPM | Strong. Comfortable for court and data entry tests. |
| Above 60 WPM | Fast. Work on stamina for long transcription tests. |
How the test is scored
We use the standard definition: every five characters, including spaces, is one word. Gross speed is the words you typed divided by the minutes taken. Net speed then subtracts one word per minute for each word that is still wrong at the end, because that is how most recruitment tests judge speed. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly.
