Head Constable (Ministerial) is the clerical cadre of the Central Reserve Police Force, handling records, pay, correspondence and office administration in battalions and headquarters. Selection involves a computer based test, physical standards and efficiency tests, and a typing skill test. The typing standard usually quoted is the central government one: 35 words per minute in English or 30 in Hindi, expressed as key depressions per hour in some notices.

Typing after the physical test
Candidates often reach the typing stage soon after the physical tests, which makes it easy to neglect typing practice while preparing for running and measurements. Keep a short daily typing routine throughout, so your speed is ready whenever the skill test is scheduled.
The skill test is qualifying. Falling short means losing the post even after clearing every other stage, so build a margin above the minimum.
Office language of the forces
Ministerial staff in the armed police forces type movement orders, leave sanctions, pay documents and reports. Passages often include ranks, unit names, dates and numbers. Our office passages contain similar structures, and the GK passages help with the written stage.
Equivalents
- 35 WPM = 10,500 key depressions per hour.
- 30 WPM = 9,000 key depressions per hour.
- Our result card shows both WPM and KDPH.
Preparing alongside the written and physical stages
Head Constable Ministerial selection has several stages spread over months, and typing is often the one candidates leave until last. A better approach is to treat typing as part of daily preparation from the start. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough to keep improving without taking time from studies or physical training. Use the GK passages here on days when you also want to revise reasoning, polity or general awareness topics. By the time the skill test is announced, you will already be well above the required speed instead of rushing to catch up.
Tips to pass the CRPF HCM typing test
- Practise ten minutes a day even during physical training weeks.
- Aim for 40 WPM English or 33 WPM Hindi in practice.
- Get comfortable with numbers and capital letters used in ranks and unit names.
- Use backspace-off mode once a week.
- Rest your hands before the test; fatigue from physical events can affect accuracy.
