BELTRON, Bihar's state electronics corporation, maintains a pool of data entry operators who are posted to government departments across the state. Entry to this pool depends on a computer based typing skill test in Hindi and English, and the score you get can affect which grade or list you are placed in. Because the test is repeated in regular cycles, many candidates take it more than once to improve their score.

A skill test with grades
Rather than a single pass mark, the BELTRON skill test has commonly been graded according to speed and accuracy. Minimum speeds around 20 WPM in Hindi and 25 WPM in English are often mentioned, but a higher score gives you a better position. Treat the minimum as a floor, not a target.
Data entry work is about volume and accuracy. A data entry operator who types quickly but leaves errors creates more work for everyone, which is why accuracy weighs heavily.
What to practise
Data entry often involves names, addresses, numbers and short administrative sentences. Practise numbers and punctuation as well as passages. In Hindi, Unicode on InScript is increasingly common, but older Bihar offices also use Kruti Dev, so check your notice.
Plan
- Daily: one 5-minute Hindi test and one 5-minute English test.
- Twice a week: a full 10-minute test in each language.
- Watch your KDPH figure; it is the natural unit for data entry work.
Common mistakes in data entry tests
The most frequent errors in data entry tests are skipped lines, transposed digits and missing punctuation. Skipped lines happen when the eye loses its place in a long passage; keep a steady rhythm and glance back at the current word if you lose track. Transposed digits, such as typing 1243 instead of 1234, come from rushing the number row. Missing commas and full stops are easy to ignore in practice but count against you in the test. Review the mistakes list after every attempt and you will quickly see which of these habits you need to fix.

- Type addresses and names from everyday life to build accuracy with capitals and commas.
- Keep accuracy above 97 percent; data entry is judged strictly.
