The Review Officer and Assistant Review Officer examination of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission recruits staff for the State Secretariat, the Commission itself and other offices. For posts where typing is required, candidates take a Hindi typing test on computer after the main examination, with a speed of around 25 words per minute commonly mentioned. Because these posts are in the heart of state administration, the passages tend to be formal government Hindi.

Secretariat Hindi
Secretariat files use formal Hindi: प्रस्ताव, अनुमोदन, शासनादेश, संदर्भित, प्रमुख सचिव, निदेशालय and अनुपालन are everyday words. They are long and full of conjuncts. Typing them without hesitation is the main skill this test rewards.
The test is usually qualifying, so you need a reliable margin above the minimum rather than a record speed.
Choosing a layout
Typists trained in Uttar Pradesh institutes often know Kruti Dev. Recent computer based tests may use Unicode. Check the notice, and if Unicode is required but you know Kruti Dev, switch to Remington Gail, which uses the same key positions.
Practice plan
- Formal and office passages, 10 minutes, five days a week.
- GK passages on alternate days to revise for the main exam.
- One backspace-off test per week.
Balancing typing with the main examination
RO and ARO preparation is demanding, and typing practice can feel like a distraction from the written papers. Combining the two helps: the GK passages on this site cover polity, history, geography, science and economy topics that also appear in the main examination. Typing a passage about the Constitution or the Reserve Bank revises the facts while building speed. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough to reach and keep a comfortable margin above the required speed.
Tips to pass the UPPSC RO/ARO typing test
- Practise formal words like शासनादेश and अनुपालन until they are automatic.
- Aim for 30 WPM in practice to clear 25 WPM comfortably.
- In Remington layouts, practise reph words such as कार्य, निर्णय and अर्ध.
- Use blind mode to get used to typing without seeing errors.
- Check your progress page weekly; small steady gains add up.
