The Computer Proficiency Certification Test (CPCT) is a certificate that many Madhya Pradesh government departments ask for when hiring data entry operators, assistants and similar staff. It includes a written computer-knowledge section and separate English and Hindi typing sections. Your scorecard shows the net speed you reached, and each department sets the speed it needs, so higher is always better.

The typing sections
The English and Hindi typing sections are each commonly described as around 15 minutes long. Hindi can be typed on InScript or Remington Gail with a Unicode font. Speeds often mentioned as targets are 30 WPM in English and 20 WPM in Hindi for data entry roles, with some posts needing more.
Because the certificate is used for many posts, candidates often sit CPCT more than once to raise their scores. Regular practice with 15-minute tests is the best preparation.
InScript or Remington Gail?
InScript is the Indian government standard layout and is logical: you type letters in the order they are pronounced. Remington Gail follows the typewriter layout that older typists learned, where some matras are typed before the consonant. If you are starting from zero, InScript is usually easier to learn. If you already know Remington or Kruti Dev, stay with Remington Gail.
Using this page
- Switch between English and Hindi with the language buttons in the test.
- Pick InScript or Remington Gail for Hindi; the on-screen chart shows the key positions.
- Use the 15-minute setting for full mock tests and shorter settings for warm-ups.
Tips to pass the CPCT typing test
- Do separate sessions for English and Hindi; switching layouts mid-session confuses finger memory.
- Learn the InScript halant key (d) and conjunct keys early; they are needed in almost every line.
- Fifteen minutes is long — practise sitting upright and relaxing your shoulders.
- Track your history: aim to raise your net speed by one or two WPM each week.
- Before the test, check that the layout selected on the exam computer matches what you practised.
Frequently asked questions
What speed is needed in CPCT?+
It depends on the post. Around 30 WPM English and 20 WPM Hindi are often quoted for data entry roles. Check the advertisement for the job you want.
How long is each typing section?+
Each is commonly described as about 15 minutes. Confirm on the official CPCT website.
Which Hindi layouts are allowed?+
InScript and Remington Gail with a Unicode font are the layouts usually offered. Both are available on this page.
Is Kruti Dev allowed in CPCT?+
Kruti Dev is a legacy non-Unicode font. If you learned it, Remington Gail uses almost the same key positions, so practise in Remington Gail mode.
Can I see the on-screen keyboard?+
Yes. Open the keyboard chart under the test to see where each Hindi character is.
Is my score here an official CPCT score?+
No. This is a practice tool only.
