Lesson 2: Top Row (qwerty uiop)

The top row holds most vowels — E, I, O and U — so after this lesson you can type real sentences. Reach up from the home row with the same finger that owns that column, then return. The little fingers take Q and P, the index fingers take R, T, Y and U.

Tips

  • Keep the other fingers anchored on the home row while one finger reaches up.
  • E and I are the most frequent top-row keys; drill them until they feel automatic.
  • If you hit the wrong key, slow down rather than looking down.
